Whilst Renewal prides itself in being an active choir supporting many different types of events, we also engage in development projects that lead to a musical production of some sort. In this section of the site we list our current projects that we are working on in the background whilst we continue our events and engagements schedule.
Hallelujah Chorus – Help Renewal Make a Joyful Noise
Our “Hallelujah Chorus” project actively promotes the opportunity for local people to “sign-up” to a series of performance development workshops to learn to sing in a black gospel style and then participate in a 100 voice mass choir in Renewal’s 2009 Christmas concert event finale on Saturday 12 December. We are providing the opportunity for 30 individuals to rehearse and perform together with the choir and its band with the desired outcome of developing a great appreciation for the black gospel music tradition through direct experience. Below is a taste of the piece ” in rough” at a rehersal with the voices of around 40 Renewal Choir members a couple of years ago … just image more than double the number of voices for the 100 voice mass choir!
The Hallelujah Chorus sits within Renewal’s Christmas concert, Handel’s Messiah – Soulful celebration. Our “soulful” version of the Hallelujah Chorus also has direct links with a nation wide initiative promoted via BBC Radio 3 and English National Opera (ENO) called, “Sing Hallelujah” encouraging people to find their voice and discover the joy of singing through Handel’s famous “Hallelujah Chorus”.
Thanks to a small Grass Roots grant from the Quartet Community Foundation in Bristol, Renewal are able to extend the opportunity for singers of all abilities to help us make a joyful noise as we render a hugely uplifting and inspirational version of the popular Hallelujah Chorus and everyone from beginners to established singers is invited to register an interest in joining the project to learn and perform the Hallelujah Chorus.
